Course Overview

This 2 day course provides a foundation for designing, building and working with relational databases, enabling students to effectively develop and use relational databases in a business environment. The training will focus on the fundamentals of database design in order to facilitate a better understanding of how data is stored, queried, and manipulated. That said, sufficient material will be covered in order for delegates to create meaningful and usable databases in the workplace. The course will be useful to anyone wanting to know the basics of relational database design concepts, and will include coverage of such concepts as primary and foreign keys, constraints, entity relationships, data normalisation, creating databases, creating and managing tables, and native SQL Server datatypes. To facilitate the learning process and augment the theory, students will get the opportunity to design a practical working database, with plenty of hands-on exercises to implement the design. In the latter sections of the course, students will also get the chance to write some basic queries to acquaint them with the foundations of the Structured Query Language (SQL). No previous knowledge of the SQL language is assumed. This course serves as an ideal precursor to any of the following courses. Prerequisites
What you should know before attending this course

Students should be familiar with working in a Microsoft Windows operating system environment. Additionally, knowledge of basic programming concepts would be helpful, but not essential.
